Vladimir Prop: 


Looked at Character roles within narratives. He argued that Narratives are driven by males which allows us to challenge his theory at times. He said all narratives featured the same 8 character roles based on traditional tales. 


8 characters are: 
1. The Hero 
2. The Villain
3. The Donor
4. The False hero
5. The Dispatcher
6. The Helper
7. The Princess/ The Prince
8. The Father 


The Little Mermaid 2. 
1. Ariel
2. Ursula's sister
3. Trident 
4. Eels 
5. Husband - Eric
6. Flounder
7. Eric - Prince / Daughter - Melody 
-Reaches the same criteria however it is a different gender role. 
8. The King
